Waves | Cloudberries 1000 Piece Gradient Jigsaw Puzzle Review

A new day, a new puzzle! Today’s puzzle is Clouds, a 1,000-piece puzzle from Cloudberries featuring artwork by Rachel Breeden. This is a lovely puzzle that was fairly easy to put together. I think it took about half the time it usually takes me to assemble a standard 1,000-piece puzzle.

Overall, it was a satisfying build, and the quality was quite nice. I did encounter a few false fits, but since this wasn’t a random-cut puzzle, that’s pretty much par for the course due to the gradient nature of the image. I would expect the possibility of false fits for any puzzle with similar piece cuts depending on the image.

The piece texture was really interesting; it had a soft, almost velvet-like texture. Not quite as soft as an Art & Fable puzzle but along those lines if you are familiar with that brand. The pieces fit together nicely, so you could move small sections if you wanted to (though I didn’t need to with this image). I thought it was of rather nice quality overall. This is one of Cloudberries’ large-batch puzzles, and I’m mainly noting that because I’ve heard there are some quality issues with their small-batch puzzles, which I haven’t tried yet (but hope to soon).

In terms of the image, this was a nice change from the style I usually pick. I honestly thought I would have a slightly better eye for color being a designer, but it was still pretty easy to figure out which piece went next. If you watch carefully, you’ll see I absolutely got several sections in the wrong place initially while working on the left-hand edge, which I had to fix once my husband started on that side. I found it harder to put together the warm colors than the cool, which is an interesting observation and makes me wonder if my vision is just better at identifying variations in cool tones.

The packaging is a little boring, but the box is sturdy enough. Each large-count Cloudberries puzzle comes in a gray box with the full image on the front. I understand that they chose the gray color so that any design would be shown off and wouldn’t clash against it, but it is not the most inspiring of box designs. In contrast, the packaging of their new small-count series is gorgeous. You can tell they put some serious thought into the design of the new series. It’s such a shame that the reviews I’ve seen have said that the quality is considerably less than their larger original puzzles. I have only gotten second-hand accounts of the quality, so I haven’t been able to personally confirm.
